Hey,
i'm having problems with my psu as i've just switched case.
the power connectors coming from my psu are really weird and the case fans on my new case support 4 pin and my psu does not, i'm not even sure of the name of the connectors so ill post a few pics.
this is the connector (click to enlarge):

Connector my case fans use:

any help is much appriciated.
thanks.

I don't see any links or pics... can you say what model of PSU and case you have?

your PSU only has SATA power connectors? no 4-pin molex connectors?! what power supply do you have?

http://a.imagehost.org/view/0702/03122009071 is standard SATA power

http://a.imagehost.org/view/0516/03122009072 is standard 4 pin molex...

and the 4 pin molex is the front of the connector, not the side you'd plug power into, but the side you'd plug into a drive...

if you only have SATA power, you'll need one of these...

SATA Power to 4-pin molex

the back of the fan plug should look like...

note: take smaller pictures -- learn how to use your camera Macro...

That's a SATA connector. For SATA drives.
OK, there your pics work. The connectors coming out of the PSU are SATA power connections, they're meant for hard drives and solid state drives, not fans. Your fans use molex connections; if your PSU doesn't supply any connectors for those, then I'm REALLY curious as to what model of PSU you have.
yeah i was kinda beating around the bush at finding a way of switching it. is there any sata - 4pin splitters i can buy?

I don't think so, usually you'd find it the other way around. Can you post what PSU you have, or at least a close-up pic of its side label (to get the model number)?

The model number itself is obscured. It's a mediocre Delta Electronics 300W. Not as bad as Bestec, but not as good as FSP.

If it doesn't have molex connectors my guess is that the company that built the PC decided it didn't need any, just plugged the case fans straight into the mobo.

Is your system a Dell? I can only identify that as an OEM PSU for Dell systems, and strangely enough, it DOES only have SATA connectors. Do you have any unused fan headers on the motherboard?
nope there all taken, and yes the mobo and psu was from a dell :/
Then I guess you're out of luck until you can afford a new PSU. Don't cheap out on it, either, when you get around to it. Just make another thread when you're ready to make the purchase and you'll get plenty more help.
