So I looked up the benchmark scores for an HD 6850 and it says on crysis 1920X1200: it runs at 24.1-36.1 FPS. Are these playable FPS?

And if I overclocked the gpu would it make a difference and by how much?

yes 24-36 is definitely playable, and overclocking the gpu won't make a huge difference. Usually we do it to get higher benchies, but thats about it. If you get a monster overclock you might see a few fps increase, but I'm only speaking from my own opinion.

In Crysis you are limited by your CPU. It uses only 2 cores heavily. The others lightly. your performance will suffer because of your CPU sadly. All of the AMD cpu's on the market suffer in crysis even overclocked.

I brought my GTX 480 from reference clocks to 920MHz under water. FPS went to a consistent 60 from 45-60.

I ran Saints Row 2 at 4FPS minimum settings at 640x480, and it was still enjoyable.
I ran Mafia II at 60FPS on my sig rig, and it sucked.

Depending on how much you want to play the game, you will be willing to make some sacrifices. That said, I start getting annoyed by choppiness below 30FPS.

25+ in crysis is playable with motion blur. 30+ is preffered tho.
w/o motion blur, crysis at 25 is IMPOSSIBLE imo.
OCing will make you gain ~5 fps if its a good OC.

Playable is anything over 20.

Enjoyable is anything over 40.

Smooth is anything over 60.

...and perfect is anything over 125.
