I have a Poweredge R730 server that i intended to use in a home network, it has 2 Intel Xeon E5-2680 v3 2.5GHz with 16 sas drives (23.1 TB) and 384 GB of RAM. It has not been set-up yet just sitting there. Has anyone have any ideas as to what is the best way i could use it to make some extra cash and i am bit of a noob at this. I was thinking of renting out space at 50GB a time but as i looked into it there are lot of things i would have to install so not so sure

If you need the cash, sell it.

There's really no good way to monetize it otherwise that doesn't require both power and internet redundancy which is not very feasible for a home setup.

Since your in in the East Coast and I don't see you taking over my market share. LOL you can set up a raid system with parity and offer digitize services for doctors. They have to scan thousands of documents and or high res pics. Eventually this gets pricey and cumbersome to upload to the big back up services or cloud services.

Just make sure to draft that you not a back up service company and just offering to offload their encrypted images to you. I do something similar in a different vertical and bigger scale but the concept is similar.

Why don't you just sell it? If you need money, this is a good solution..For example, I love cool new bikes, but I wouldn't buy one for myself, I would take something classic and inexpensive. But my neighbor started his own business. He buys up old rare bicycles, restores them and sells them at a high price. He was advised to start such a business with financial adviser. I really like what he does and how he makes good money. I can also contact his financial adviser to tell me how to start a business.

I would be very careful about taking on the responsibility of storing any PHI. It's a risky business to jump into.
