20fps and above. They say the human eye can only see 24FPS anyways, not sure if it's really true. I say as long as it looks good to the player, then it really doesn't matter.

I'd say it depends on which game it is.
With motion blurring / Crysis = 22+ Seemed smooth as butter to me.
Anything else bar CSS 30+
CSS 40+ (seems jerky around the 30ish mark)

Ive heard 60 fps. Personally you should just max your fps out no matter what

In the only place that counts, i.e. the competitive FPS scene, 60+ is definitely needed.
45FPS minimum for me. I can tell when it starts to get into the 30's on anything fast paced.

That's false. The difference between 30 and 60 FPS is huge. The majority of console games run at 30 FPS at once i got used to 60 FPS on the PC, console games look choppy.

It depends a lot on the game/engine used for me.

I start noticing slowdown immediately when the FPS drops below ~55 in Source games, but 25fps is smooth to me in Crysis.
Source I need 100, Crysis I need 40.
Audiosurf is smooth around 70.
31-40 is usually the bottom end of playable so I voted on that. However I much prefer 45+ fps as a good playable framerate. 60-100 is nice, but a rarity.

Doesn't your monitor only have a 60 Hz refresh? That means you can't see anything over 60 FPS anyway.

Only if you have Vertical Sync enabled.
In City of Heroes/City of Villains, I usually get anywhere between 150-200FPS on instanced missions.

I know for ATI you can go into control panel and you can raise it, normally on low desktop resolutions, or you can use reforce and do that.

Um..no. Vsync locks FPS at your refresh rate so the image doesn't tear. So my monitor has runs at 60Hz, meaning the screen refreshes 60 times per second MAX. All the other frames are wasted and cause screen tearing.

On my monitor, 60 FPS and 500 FPS will look exactly the same, except the image will tear on 500 FPS.

Most people game at their native resolution.

Depends on the game I guess, but 30+ FPS seems to do the trick, as long as the MIN FPS doesn't get too much below 20. When games fluctuate from 15-100 FPS it is quite annoying. A steady 30 FPS is more playable IMO than fluctuating from 30-60 FPS as the drops in frames become more noticeable.

Am I right to assume that the "
" is implying sarcasm? Vertical sync only limits the fps to what the refresh rate of the monitor is (60hz=60fps). If your monitor is 60hz it is not able to display more than 60fps.

QFT, though i like source to be at least over 100fps to be ideal.
