what internet speed do you need to play online games?

i'm asking that because i'm going away for the week-end and might want to play mw2 through tethering from my iphone. if i remember correctly, windows gave me a speed of 500k/s when i tried it last week. i know my wireless router is 54m/s and wired is faster (1gb/s??)

so is that enough or should i stick to websurfing for the week-end.

also, what quantity of data does a game download and upload while gaming, supposing that i don't have customs maps to download?

and don't worry about my iphone data plan, i have 6gb/month

500Kb/s is good enough for your iPhone. Customs maps is still good enough for your speed considering they are usually around 1mb to 10mb in size.
well 500kb/s is 60-ish KB/s, so it will work for gaming, but don't expect to pull host. Depending on the ping though, you might not be able to play at all.

Speed isn't nearly as important as latency. I am guessing your iphone will not have a low enough latency to keep up with many modern games. You can try a ping test to check.

the ping might not be the same as a dedicated isp connection. even though you are able to transfer files at that speed doesn t mean that you will get the best gaming experience though mobile internet. also, will the connection get interrupted during an incoming call ?
You ll get around 200 ms to your closest location with a 3g connection and it ll depend on signal power
I'd stick to games that don't require a good ping, such as Gmod or RTS's. Cell phone networks have horrid pings.
well, that answer my question. i won't play online during the week-end.
