Well, if some punks were on our tail and threatening to take our spot, what would we do?

The are having their call to arms, just as we did. Great for folding, bad news for 37726.
the only explanation i can think of is the new WUs helped them ALOT.
because thats a really sharp increase in production.
and we need more folders as they still have about 450 more people then us.
thats just a nice little point increace
we'll see if it's a sustained increase soon enough.
I was on their forums reading and they noticed EVGA and us. So some that had not folded in a while started back folding.

Thats why I'm wondering, 500 Million PPD increase in 4 days, without any more users and none of their top 20 producers have really posted and significant gains.

Curious why OCN isn't benefiting as much from the new WUs, since we have a rather large share of our points being produced by GPU folding.

is this it?

I think I may have an answer to some of the "mystery of huge point increases"

It is project 3798 for the single core client. This project does not show up on stanford summary page.

Back in december and january Stanford was using this project to test some new servers under load. They would only take a few minutes to complete and it would send it back and get another. At this point stanford was awarding 5 points per completed work unit.

Skip ahead to this week. Stanford re-releases this work unit but now it takes a couple of hours to complete. But instead of benchmarking the WU at the typical 110ppd from a 2.8Ghz P4 this one is pushing 1,100ppd from my 2.8Ghz p4. They are awarding 250point for this compled workunit.

I have 6 machines running these right now and normaly I would be producing 800ppd from these 6. EMIII is showing my production at over 7,000ppd from six single core machines!!

My EOC stats has me @ 36,000 points in the last 24hrs and normally I produce 25,000ppd.

I hope these last a while but I think they will only be around for a couple of days.

Enjoy the boost singe core players!!

There 3 hour reports went from about 375,00 to about 450,000

Could be a bunch of points were cached at Stanford and they just collected, time will tell.

Oo just think what a quad would do to those WU's

Man, this makes me want to fold, but having my i7 on 24/7 makes my house so hot, and my AC is super-expensive to run....

I bet I'm right, its likely cached points when the servers were down
The top 6, and #11, 12, 13 teams... I stoped looking after that.
They have a freak peak going on, no way all of them just add a ton of folders!

Tomorrow I'm gonna do my best to rush installing dual simple CPU clients on some C2Ds.. And another couple of computers I might be allowed to do so.

Anyway, if this is here to stay it is good news for single core folders. If they overdo it with giving points to single-core folders, SMP folding might be threatened. Meaning people might start switching to simple clients... I doubt it, but it did cross my mind.
i just set up 8 simple clients on my i7 machine, and we will see what happens.
I agree with Duke here. Everyone has an uber sharp turn up.
