The best Intel mobo for skt 775 is the Asus P5WD2-E Premium. It has the 975x chipset, and is pretty much the best overclocking board out.

can you tell me what is a "Stepless Frequency Selection"?

Actually, he recommended the E-Premium....his board (and mine, as you can see) is just the Premium. major difference is the chipset, 975 for the E and 955 for the Premium.

Both are great boards, the E will just likely be able to run the Conroe chips where as the 955 chipset won't......

Also the weirdness of the ATA buses, but that's minor......

I have heard good things about the P5LD2 from ASUS as well, but have no first hand expereince with it.....

stepless frequency control

Stepless frequency selection (SFS) is a technology that makes it possible to adjust the system bus frequency of a computer in increments of 1 MHz over a specified range. SFS is appreciated by advanced computer users who like to overclock their systems (that is, set the clock frequency higher than the frequency selected by the manufacturer). Several vendors offer motherboards with SFS technology.
In wireless communications and general electronics applications, the term SFS is sometimes used in reference to analog frequency control, in which the frequency of reception or transmission is adjustable over a continuous range. Analog frequency control is rarely employed these days, except in low-end or older radio broadcast receivers

The GIGABYTE with the 975X chipset of course.

GIGABYTE boards are one of the best two MoBos that you can go for an Intel set-up.....except always stay with an Intel Core Logic because nForce 4 chipsets for Intel suck big-time.
Unfortionately, the 975X motherboard can not run the Conroe. It is not because of the 975X either, accually that is the intended chipest for Conroe. The problem is the voltage regulator is not sufficient for the Conroe on all current 975X mobos. Many thats why there are not many of them out?
yeah cool im getting the P5WD2-Premium no the e premium heard its really good for ocing by the way omri shalom ani medaber hibrit ani misrael

Ah, so that's the hardware issue I heard rumor's about.

BTW - i thought the 985 was the platform designed for the Conroe specifically to be released side by side with them?

the asus is better is better i got the premium today(waiting to install it)

but what i like about the gigabyte is the dual bios if you got a firmware problem you load the other one.
and 7 fan ports and debugging led.
but nforce chipsets arent the best ocers

its your choice if your a overclocker go with the asus premium or E-premium.
but if your a gamer go with the gigabyte becasue of the sli

I'd go with the 975x chipset, however the only advantage I can see .. I'm gunna be so wrong here, is that it can take ddr2-800 ram, as opposed to 667. I think it may also have better raid capabilities, but that may not interest everyone as raid-0 seems to be fine for most performance seekers.

I have the P5ND2-Deluxe and it's a fantastic board, seems to have lots of options, only complaint is the hot south bridge, but the tai chi will soon fix that (been saying that for a long time now, havent I..I swear i'll get around to it)

So the only board I can personally recommend is the one that I currently own, it's super fast, and when I went into bios and asked it to run @ FSB 1066, it had no issues booting without modifying any voltages. (3.0 --> 4.01)

I could guarentee now I've got that, brand new technology is going to come out and render my whole system useless, it's so typical.
