What is the best Memory for this PoS?

Hi Guys!

I just brought this Old Compaq notebook back from the dead with Windows 7 and now I am trying to upgrade the hardware to increase performance.

Specs:
Microprocessor1.8 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TK-55
Microprocessor Cache512 KB L2 cache
Memory1024 MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Memory MaxUp to 2 GB DDR2
Video GraphicsNVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 (UMA)
Video MemoryUp to 288 MB

The weird thing is, I have the stock stick (1 gig) of ram as well as a Corsair DDR2-667 2 gig stick and with Vista 32 bit it recognized 2.6 (around there) gigs of RAM and now with Win 7 it recognizes 3 gigs so the claim that it only supports 2 gigs is false.

I have a few questions:

What is the fastest RAM I can use? (667 mhz or 800mhz)

Will I see an improvement if I match the RAM with another 2 gig Corsair stick?

Do you think it will recognize 4 gigs of memory?

Will paying 50 bucks for a matching 2 gig stick increase the performance?

Part of the memory is used by the graphics card. You probably won't see a performance difference between 2gb and 4gb unless you're running a 64 bit os. In fact, I don't think 32-bit os'es support 4gb of ram. I think they will only show 3gb. You don't really need a matching 2GB stick as long as they're both ddr2 and at least ddr2 667. I have a couple 2gb sticks for sale right now if you're interested. P.M. me about it.
I doubt more ram will help you at all.
3gb is more than enough to support the rest of the parts in that system.
Yes it will recognize 2x2gb sticks as 4gb with an x64 os.
I doubt it will be worth the extra money tho.
There is no way of knowing which ram the mobo supports without me knowing the mobo.
Hope this helps.
3GB is more then enough for that notebook, I don't see why you would want to add more as it will still have to cope with the sub-par CPU and crappy onboard videocard.
64 Bit Win7 is on there presently.

So having a mismatch of 1 gig and 2 gig still runs in dual channel?

One more gig for 50 bucks is a bit much.
