What consol can the psp not be able to emulate because it's not powerfull enough? I say the playstation, but even if they did make it work the games would be huge.

The PSP can emulate the original Playstation easilly. Most of the Playstation games only took up 100-400 MB's anyway, could fit maybe 5 of them on a single 1 GB memory stick.

Their's even a PS2 emulator out there that can do some PS2 games. But not many will fit on even a 2 GB stick, but you aren't limited to memory stick with the new drives coming out.

Hmmm interesting, I hope to see some dreamcast ones come out because there is one game where you raise a fish or somthing and it has a smart mouth and you can talk to it through a mic.

Yes there is a Playstation emulator and yes it can emulate basically ALL Playstation games. Only problem is most games aren't playable at .5 fps.

Common sense would figure out if they can't emulate a PS1 they can't do a PS2 as claimed.

They can't do the N64 either and I don't think they have GBA working that well yet either, but most of the others they can do at decent speeds with frameskipping.

Yer its prety limited on 2.0 up due to no kernel access.

However the N64 emulator is in its early stages, but dont expect anything to great.
PS1 emulator is bassically out of the question, maybe Sony will release some of the games.

But as emulaotrs go aslong as it was relased before the Playstation one it can be emulated.

Well, 2.0 can do most of the homebrew that people use. (Mainly some simple applications and emulators) and the only thing you can't really do is UMD emulation which if you really wanted to, you could just downgrade to 1.5.

PSP is moire powerful than every system besides the xbox, and xbox 360......

BUT it has emulators for PS one, NES, Super NES and anything below that....and no dreamcase games YET.....but their will be a lot added later.....

It wouldn't really fix any problems other than storage, but to answer your question, yes there are products like that which are built for PSP, I-Pod and similar products.

I had to use frameskip on some snes games to have them play smoothly on my psp, so I think that ps1 is definitely out of the question. Though I think a lot depends on how good the emulator is, but still...

Are gba games playable? I wanted to start using a gba emulator.

Yes, there is a GBA emulator and it seems to run a lot better than I had thought.

I'm sure the PSP could very well run Playstation games, but there are two problems:

1. Sony would certainly not offer this themselves.
2. The homebrew developers that made the software or idea doesn't know enough to access the full power of the PSP's graphical processing unit.

They have the basic code down for running it but it has not been optimized for the PSP yet.

I have hjeard of frameskip but what is it? Also yes they do have a hd for the psp it attaches itself and it's 4gb.

I think frameskip works exactly how it sounds.

Frameskip 0 - Frame 1, Frame 2, Frame 3, Frame 4...
Frameskip 1 - Frame 1, Frame 3, Frame 5, Frame 7...
Frameskip 2 - Frame 1 - Frame 4, Frame 7, Frame 10

And so on.

The problem with emulators is that they dont use the graphics processor. The game is rendered entirely on the CPU, so that is a major limitation, especially with 3D games.

I'm fairly sure the new SNES emulator uses the GFX core on the PSP, not totally sure though.

Well would that mean a much smoother gameplay because how hard can it be for a 233/333 mhz cpu to do snes?

Im in the process of buying a psp for the wifey, and been hearing this emulator thing for the psp where can i donwload them and do some reading? and it would be really nice if they can emulate dreamcast games, been wanting to play my tokyo street while in the mall with the wifey. hehehe

Ok, well I am gonna get one from a freind because he dosent ever use it anymore (he dosen't really know it's true capabilities) for $165 and that comes with the whole normal psp stuff, a great case, and 2movies with 1 game. I am gonna sell the movies and games then get the games I do want. It has 2.6 firmware, but that's cool because I'll just use the gta hack.
