So after many, many, many hours i have finally installed my 7970 Accelero cooler. The thing could not fit in my x16 slot so i put it in my x8 slot.

Doing this required moving my Harddrives around in a very cramped area and blah blah blah (basically, it was a b**** and i would not like to do it again)

The cooler is in now, GPU temp idling is below 30c as well as VRM temps but when i was putting the cooler in i heard a dreadful "ting" noise (the sound of one of the heatsinks falling off the PCB and onto the cooler. I took the card out (another lengthy nighmare) and found out that this was the only heatsink that fell off and i have no clue what it does.

I tried sticking it back in many times but it kept falling off so i gave up and just put the card in. Like i said temps are very good right now but i have yet to stress the card. So anyone know what that thing does before i hit 3DMark?

no they don't put memory or vrm heatsinks when watercooling. but thermal pads are used for better dissipation of heat to the waterblock. find out about their stickiness and if they can hold the heatsink properly.

i ended up putting one of the smaller heatsinks on, stuck so far so i'm happy about that. If it falls off i'm going to have to burn down Arctics HQ.
