What is TRC?

Hi all i was just wondering if lowering the TRC number in the advanced memory settings would end up increasing performance in some way.

Also, can anyone post me a link to the most current free download of Memtest?

Thanks a lot - Benny

I answered this in your other post, but here is the short of it.

Memtest Download

If you need help using the program just ask.

Yes tRC can help improve performance. Like I mentioned and like the post that Mr. Stroker linked you will want to start with a range from 20-25.

Ok thanks for the link. I went ahead and downloaded the latest version of memtest (ISO file) and made a bootable disc using MagicISO Maker. It worked fine. But i have a few questions about it.

1. Is the default test that Memtest just starts running on it's own, enough to ensure that everything is fine? I saw at the bottom that you can kind of select other tests to be run. Do i need to mess with any of that stuff? Or do i just let it run, and if it passes then the overclock is a good one?

2.If it fails, then i need to adjust my latencies or my Mhz overclock, correct? This one seems pretty obvious but i just wanted to ask if there is ever any reason that it could fail, and i would still be ok. This occurs to me cause in prime95 the CPU can fail right off the bat, but the PC will still run and act fine.

3. The USB flash method of running memtest seems interesting to me. Do i just set the computer to boot from removable storage with that file somewhere on the USB flash drive? Sounds to easy if that is the case. Please fill me in if i am missing any of the steps for using this method.

4. This is really the very first time i have used any such program. Are there any other free programs out there other than Memtest that i can download in ISO format and use by creating a bootable disc? For some reason i found this to be kind of fun so i thought i would ask.

Bump for last questions
1. Default test is fine, let it run overnight.

2. If it fails, I'd lower the MHz on the memory by, like, 10.

3. Set BIOS to boot from USB stick, you have to format the USB flash drive and put memtest ALONE on there. I believe so, anyway, about that last part.

4. Google UBCD. There's a beta of it on their forums.
So I can consider the latest version of Memtest to be the end all, be all, of RAM tests? Can anyone say for certain that if i do in fact pass, that my OS will not be corrupted? Otherwise i really don't see any point for Memtest to even exist... I mean other than that what is the worst that could happen if your RAM isn't set right? Computer lockup? You would know something was wrong at that point anyway....

Basically i am trying to figure out if Memtest will catch any possible screwup on my part that could corrupt my OS.
