I was wondering what kind of GHz on 2 cores does it take to beat the 2600 ppd mark? deciding rather to get new cpu or gpu for folding! help?

Right around 3.6GHz, give or take. You could probably do it with 3.4GHz.

Edit: Now that I think about it. If you use VMware + Ubuntu, you could do it with 3.2GHz-3.4GHZ.

Since I fold on both I can tell you it's an absolute fact that you get more bang for the buck with GPU2 folding.

An overclocked E8500 for like $180 can score you between 3k - 4k per day.

Whereas an overclocked GTX 260 (currently around $180 with rebates) can score 6k - 7k per day.
