i've installed Ubuntu 8.10 64bits few hours ago and its good enough for me im not an expert in Unix based systems but the problem is that skype isnt compatible with this particular ubuntu version.. so im open to suggestions for another distro

i was thinking Fedora or OpenSUSE thanks in advance

let us know how it goes... if WINE doesn't work (i'm almost 100% certain it will), you could try Fedora 10 - just been released.

maybe the 64bit ubuntu has an incompatibility but 32 does not? just an idea..

You have to install ia32-libs and probably a couple of other things for Skype on 64-bit Ubuntu. It should pick up everything you need if you sudo apt-get install skype .
