http://www.walmart.com/ip/NETGEAR-N600-Wireless-Dual-Band-Gigabit-Router/13989202

I have comcast internet at 16mbps but get about 25 when I test using speedtest.com. I bought all cat6 cable and hard wired all machines but wonder if the modem will also support gigabit speed like the router does. What is popular or good out there today? Did I buy good stuff? I can still exchange if there is a better deal out there. I mainly game and stream here at home. Any tips would be helpful.

The router and modem are both great selections and will do well. I use the N600 flashed with dd-wrt, it is very stable, has excellent Wi-Fi range, and easily handles the demand that my 9 devices require (it's a complicated network setup). Even with the netgear firmware it is a good router, although I had to reboot it periodically.

The surfboard modem is very popular right now. The DOCSIS 3.0 is the latest standard for modems and can handle a lot of simultaneous connections. You don't need gigabit Ethernet on the modem as the internet bandwidth is far less than 1000 megabit (which is 1 gigabit), if it could handle that high speed it would be unnecessary.
