Should I get an AMD athlon 64 3400+ or a Pentium 4 3.2 ghz?

I plan to play games (counter strike mostly) and use photoshop and other programs.

I plan plan to overclock it to outperform a stock 3.4 ghz.

Well for optimal gaming performance AMD is the way to go, though Intel holds the crown for media encoding operations, especially those in photshop. But since you're talking differences of just a few seconds, I'd stil get the AMD for best gaming

939s are about 5-10% faster. tho the 754 has possably one of the best mobos. its dfi nf3. its like $110 or something for the board and usually around $250 for the chip

Only difference between Socket 754 and 939 is Socket 939 supports dual channel memory, but it offers a very small performance increas, usually less than 5%. Socket 754 is cheaper to get better components (DFI LANParty UT nF3-250Gb) and more overclockable (DTR3400+ Socket 754).

wow.. i wish i had ur options.. cuz i have an Intel but I do know for a fact that AMD is way~ better for gaming-wise and efficiency-wise

A DFI nf3 with a 3400+ fits my budget but.. THere is a tweaking guide in this site that says that the DFI nf3 needs bios modification to overclock..http://www.overclock.net/showthread....ight=DFI+Guide

it looks confusing so what is an alternative to this motherboard?

Overclocking is easy... You'll need to update to a different BIOS to use a DTR chip, but that's a no-brainer.

I have a SDRAM PC125 256mb and a SDRAM PC133 256mb... will these works on the NF3+3400+?

I dont have money for ram yet... and my harddrive sux. it is only like 2000rpm or something

Check out the EPoX 9NDA3+ mobo, it's very budget concious and one of the best overclocking boards on the market, I currently have my 3000+ overclocked to FX-55/4000+ speeds (810mhz overclock aircooled).

And for processors you could go with the 3200+ Winchester core (90nm) or the Newcastle cored 3500+ (130nm). Out of the two the Winchester cored 3200+ is going to be a better overclocker.
