its one of the first boards that came out, just wondering what the best quad to put in it is. i know that they rebranded the board with the new a1 title that was supposed to make it better for quads but i dont have that one. and i remember hearing that not all the 1333 bus quads are good for this board. any know whats best for my motherboard and have experience working with this chipset and a quad?

i'm thinking q6700

the AR version will have hard time getting over 1333FSB with a Quad due to a low GTL ref voltage which required a redesign of the some board componants which resulted in the A1 being released as you have probably heard so getting a Q6700 and ocing to 1333FSB you give you 3.33GHz and the Q6600 would give you 3GHz at the same FSB so I would get the Q6700

ive had 2 Q6600's with this board

1st B3 got to 3.2 stable, sold it off to a friend
now i have a G0 at 3.0 stable but ive had it up to 3.5-3.6ish, i just didnt need that much speed

no core load temps over 55-60C (depending on ambient temp)

60$ price difference isnt worth getting a 6700 to me

i really wanted this motherboard to last longer that the cpu and video cards. i guess i'll wait until the q6700 comes down in price or i see a q6600 that i cant pass up.

e8400's at 3.8 are plenty fast for me. i don't even know if i can fully utilize a quad yet!

I've gotten my Q6600 only to 3.2 max on my old 680i... after getting my current board, I can get 3.6...

680i's aren't great for overclocking quads, so I suggest you stick with a dual, like an e8400, or e8500

how much difference can there be between a 3.3-3.4 e6400 and a 3.8 e8400? not enough to drop 200+ dollars

and ussually do 4ghz. have 3x cache and run cooler

so you think a e8400 will reach 4.0 on an old 680i "air"?

wouldn't it be better to get a new quad in my case because they use less volts?
