Ok, so I was weighing up the differences between Bloomfield and Lynnfield. In my opinion, Lynnfield is mostly superior due to the reduced PCI-E latency, no need for a northbridge, MUCH lower temps (higher efficiency) and really 8x 8x means very little in terms of performance unless you're going very high end. Plus, USB3 isn't really being adopted yet, so I'm not worried about that. The only thing that I am left with is triple channel. What scenarios would take advantage of this extra bandwidth? Rendering, encoding, things like that? I would have thought that 2 sticks of 1600mhz CL7 would be enough bandwidth for all 4 cores.
