I am trying to OC my q9400 so if I put it at 1.30v what should the FSB be? Also when I start up the v on the cpu the numbers go red after 1.00v is this normal?

As much as you can possibly get.

Seriously, every CPU is different so there's no telling how high to set it. Start at stock, raise the FSB 5-10 Mhz at a time til you can't get into Windows anymore, then drop it back down a little and stress test it. Start there.

okay I enter it in at 1.30v with the FSB at 425 and it booted but windows did not change. What could be wrong?
Yes I made it a point to save. It says 2.66 and I just move it to 1.345v and nothing.
changing the volts doesnt raise the fsb, you need to manually set the fsb in the bios, the voltage raise just allows you to have a HIGHER fsb raise.

download CPU-Z, take a screenshot of the results, and post it in this thread and we shall help u from there.
okay so it went up now it is 2.9ghz at 1.384v should i bring down the volts? The FSB is at 1460mhz should I do a prime95 to test it?
the multi is at 6 and the fsb is at 1455mhz. I live in Buda do you live in texas? The website is giving hell trying to load that pic

Ahh that's why. You need to turn off Intel Speedstep. It will either be called that, EIST, C1E or something similar. That is lowering your multi to 6X, that's why your speed isn't changing. I think it should be 8X.

My multi is 8 now should I run prime 95? To make sure it is stable. It is cool the temp is 26C right now.
Sure, just a prelim run. Give it like 10 minutes. If your temps are good and it runs OK, bump the FSB more.

Do you mean how do I get the tests or why is it so high? I just ran those tests and that's what I got. You can get the tests in the download section near the bottom on the 1st page. That was also when I had 2 3870's instead I only have 1 now.

How did you get them is what I meant to say.

My Q9450 is currently at 1.33v and 3GHz (FSB 375, multi is 8) and is having no bother at all. I run into issues at 3.5GHz and honestly can't be bothered trying for more. I usually run stock, but upped to 3GHz to test a configuration of XP in Virtual PC (setting the PC to 1 core and 1024mb RAM)
So I ran the prime95 for 30 minutes now and it hasn't gotten over 43C so should I up the volts first or FSB? My FSB can go to 1800 and I am at 1456.
Keep bumping the FSB until you can't get into Windows anymore then bump up the voltage. You should stay under 1.36v for your CPU.
Okay will do thank you all.
