Hey guys,
I'm finally buying a new monitor and would like some advice on what to choose.
I've read the reviews on the S2440L and U2312HM, but couldn't find anything on the sS2340L.
I need a monitor that would be good all around: gaming, movies, browsing, also some slight video and photo editing. I believe these should be good.

Which would you recommend?

You and I are in the same boat... With recent prices being the way they are, I am torn between the S2340L, U2312, and U2412 :/

You're going to have a hard time getting a perfectly perpendicular angle when you have several monitors.

What makes you think that?

Plus, I would like it to have good viewing angles vertically - around 40-50 degrees deviation from looking straight on.
Keep in mind those edge to edge glass monitors are going to have horrendous glare if you have windows or bright lights around. I love my Dell monitor, but I hear the 2412 has some thicker AG than what I am using, so I cannot speak for that.

IPS has better color, VA has better contrast.

The entire Dell S series has obvious ghosting issues. The S234 is the same as the S2740L, except the 23" has a regular glossy coating vs. glass. The U2312 is very grainy and the overdrive needs to be deactivated in the service menu (TFT Central's Review has instructions) to get rid of the ghosting. There are links to reviews of the Dell S line in the official thread link in my signature.

Consider the Asus VG23AH, it is semi-glossy, so it is not grainy but slightly reflective, it supports 72hz with custom timings and does not have ghosting issues. Depending on your glass/contacts prescription, you may be able to see the passive 3D filter in the form of faint grey lines on white backgrounds.

It's known for having better viewing angles. That's really all.

It has better viewing angles. TN, IPS, and VA can all achieve similar color accuracy in many or most cases, as long as you're not buying an ultra budget monitor, and all three at the least can achieve 95~% coverage of the sRGB color gamut

An alternative to the Dell S2440 would be the BenQ GW2450 or wait for the GW2460HM to come out in North America

Has anyone here purchased any of these monitors? I just purchased the Asus VG23AH, and am disappointed....enough to return it and pay the restocking fee

Buttons and Menu system are pretty bad, and the polarization + faint horizontal lines in 2D mode give me a headache.

Am strongly looking at the Dell S2340L and S2440L. Will be using it for (in order): Photo editing, graphic design, video editing, web browsing, office work, gaming.

Can anyone who has purchased either of these provide any feedback?

Not sure how it compares to the l, but I just picked up the 2340m and it's the best monitor I've ever used under 200. It has a lot of glare, but I haven't had a problem with it yet.

I own a U2312HM and it's just perfect. The color, the finish (I hate glossy panel) the pedestal is very good and easy to move, i like the fact that you can flip the screen to portrait if needed. The other two might do the same thing, i don't know them, aall i can say is that the 2312 is an amazing monitor.

From what I understand, the L has an HDMI input instead of DVI. Otherwise they are the same monitor. Actually, this was the monitor I originally planned on getting, but the added features of the Asus got me (2 HDMI, DVI, Height Adj Stand, Built-in Speakers, 3D), and I overlooked actual picture quality.

I actually prefer glossy screens.

I think I am going to pickup the S2340L.

Hey everyone,
for anyone that is interested:
Picked up the S2340L in the end.
I am very happy with my decision. The display is great for browsing, movies & gaming. I didn't notice any major flow with this monitor. Build quality is also great!
The display is indeed glossy, but it is not bothering unless you have a direct source of light pointing at it.

I personally like it.
It would have been nice if it had both HDMI and DVI, but apart from that I have nothing to complain.

If you're still on the edge of buying a new monitor, here's a +1 vote for the S2340L.

Hey guys, ive also decided to buy the 2340L and been searching for further reviews and seen this topic over here, it does indeed seem as the best pick if u want good quality but still not go overboard with the price.

Though i am curious if anyone can tell me what comes in the package since i have no cables....only a friend has a spare HDMI cable

P.S. I am referring to the "adapter cable" ....adapter cable to what....

P.S.S. The cable was referring to the external power source.

Monitor is amazing....has some problems with black to color delays but wouldnt notice unless you are gaming all day long.
The most vibrant and "alive" colors i ever seen on an LCD monitor. Input lag about 1 or maximum 2 frames.

In case someone interested in further details pm me.

Hi Jamesjr80

I'd like to know, which monitor did you end up buying? I know it's two years later now, but they are selling the DellS2340l and S2440l here in SA still and im looking at getting the 24" also for graphic design and photo editing mainly. The 24" is in budget and looks stunning. I've red on a different forum that the 24" is a VA screen, whilst the 23" is a IPS? Can anybody here confirm this? I wont be buying a VA screen.
