What to upgrade with $300?

688 Views 16 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Majinwar
I have sold the PS3 for $300 AUD and now im wanting to upgrade my PC with it, im not sure whether to get these upgrades and if their worth it or not.

1. LG 24 inch Full HD LCD
2. Intel Core 2 Quad 9650
3. ATI Radeon 4890 1gb
4. SLI compatible 775 Mobo, give me some hints?
5. CM Storm case
6. 20L keg
7. ATI Crossfire compatible mobo with 2x 4670's or 2x 4550's

What would be the best beneficial upgrade?
Performance and worth while?

Any other upgrade that you guys think that would b awesome?
In my book the new mobo always comes first.
If you are wanting to stay with 775 and maybe get a q9650 or something I would get this.

An upgrade right now like a gpu would not be very beneficial with your current cpu.
System seems pretty good. Any games it's lagging in?

If your good in games, I'd say keep the cash until your next build.

I wouldn't suggest upgrading the monitor or else you'd most likely need to upgrade the graphics card as well.

Games go well, the monitor will be fine, The GTS holds 1080 on most games pretty well because of its memory size

Bigger case maybe? Then you'll have some extra cash for some games

My vote goes to the keg.
If it runs what you want and should run fine with the new screen and you really want to spend the money....

I'd say get the screen. I went from a 17" to a 22" a few years back and the difference was huge. So I'd imagine going from a 19" to a 24" would be similar.

Hmmm... Missed that before... That could be quite a party there... But it'll go away so fast and then all you get is a big aluminum thing.

I vote for case/ new PSU.
Gives you more upgrading room than anything else you listed.
Well monitor is out cause you would need a better gpu, and better gpu is out cause its useless without a better monitor. I would go with a new motherboard
i would get a bigger case first, then the mobo, then whatever you want from there.
I would definately go with a case. If you have enough. get a different powersupply as well. Then monitor. =D

Intel SSD!

I'd say the monitor. Moving to a nicer monitor is one of the easiest ways to get more enjoyment out of gaming. Remember, your computer isn't all about gaming either, and a bigger monitor really makes working easier as well.
My vote would go towards a SSD. My OCZ Vertex is just lovely, most noticeable upgrade I've experience in awhile.

You could then use your spinpoint for a storage drive and have the SSD for OS/Apps/Games.
