There are a lot of possible AMD CPU unlocks you don't even know of... there are CPU models you don't even know of that can unlock, and there are CPU models that can unlock in ways you couldn't have possibly heard of (lookit: Athlon II x4 640 to Phenom II x6!)

Please also read: How to identify potentially unlockable AMD chips by "Benz"

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Avoxk_HEpJEbdFB4akJ6VURCQUJiRTJ6UHEwSFlNTUE&output=html&widget=true

The primary resource used in creating this spreadsheet is CPU-World

Notes

 • This is not a list of Unlocked (multiplier) CPUs (i.e. AMD black edition, Intel K, Intel Extreme), this is a reference list concerning where extra features such as cores, cache, or unlocked multiplier (where locked before), can be unlocked in a CPU.
 • For the purpose of simplifying the list, AMD B-Series business class processors are not listed.
 • Feedback welcome as well as if you have new entries to add to the list
 • My consensus on unlocking extra features: Success is only a bonus! Don't base your purchases on hoping for extra features to unlock!

NOTICE: This is incomplete... for now. It was pushed forward somewhat by the apparent possibility of an Athlon II x4 unlocking to a Phenom II x6!

Yeah I've been meaning to do this for awhile

there are processors that don't seem unlockable (i.e. Athlon II x2 215, first glance it would seem a Regor die with locked L2 cache) but actually do, so I want to let people know that. I also want to make the "unlocked TDP" of the processor clear to those people esp. those attempting to unlock an 80W Phenom II x2 into a 125W Phenom II x4, on a potentially bad board to do it on VRM-wise.

I also just managed to confirm that the Athlon II x4 640 I saw that unlocks to an x6, is in fact E0 revision Thuban core locked, according to the different part number which is ADX640WFK42GR.

I can see you've put a lot of work into this. Good luck finishing it, hope to see it stickied. Definitely a reference worth considering if you want to get a good value for your money.

Perhaps a section for the future could be overhead of clock speed when unlocked?

For the sake of this not being predictable whatsoever, I have chosen not to add it

Same goes with "chances of unlock". You either unlock it, or you don't. Unless of course, AMD provides some official numbers on how many dies become defective and how many not.

You really need to look at the processor revisions and sometimes even the batch numbers to know if the cpu will unlock to a X6. The one on new egg looks totally different, i.e. 3.2ghz where as the 840T is 2.9ghz....notice that we do have the 840 and 840T on the list.

EDIT: 840T is OEM me thinks...someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Another nice list XD and amd-dude-buddy-homie.

I never could get my 7750 BE to unlock. The overwhelming majority could not. Maybe it would be helpful to track the unlocked results. This could be as easy as a poll for each cpu on the list.

For example:

X2 555 BE C3

A) Unlocked X4
B) Unlocked X3
C) Would not unlock, X2 only

X2 555 BE C2

A) Unlocked X4
B) Unlocked X3
C) Would not unlock, X2 only

iinversion: That is the 840, not 840T. I have put both on the list so you can diffferentiate.
raven117: I know, the list will continue to be updated this afternoon

Over the years i have gathered a bit of info on the "unlockability" of some of the more popular processors....but we felt that it would complicate this guide....In the future we may very well release another list with the stats on which processors are best for unlocking with a price : performance ratio....Or if people want me to start on this now, i can...but the list would not be that big.

Thank god AMD hasn't lasered off the extra cores.

I wonder if they will keep up core unlocks on BD

The 1055T can't be unlocked, it's not a black edition cpu so the multiplier can't be changed and there is not L3 cache or extra cores to unlock. If you want a X6 processor with an unlocked multiplier you will have to buy the 1090T
