K so this rig really makes me want to kill myself now. Ill have around $1500 by christmas and around $3500 when march comes. The question is : Should i build a rig now or wait till March and build a super-pwnage rig?

Wait until march. ive played the waiting game, i know how hard it is, i was about to buy a 3200+ Awhile back for about 140, and then an oppertunity popped up 3 months later where i snagged an opteron 146 for 45 bucks. just give it time bro, by the time march comes along, youll have a brand spankin new DX10 card and a Quad C2D. =D
wait. stick it out. OC the ***t out of it. volt mod it. destroy it. have fun with that junk

and then buy super pwnage. heck, with $3.5k, send me some pwnage too

Wait it out, there's gonna be a price drop on the conroe's. The e6700 is going to be around e6600's price.

k i guess i could wait.. and what do you guys think $3500 CAD (including monitor) could get me?
what websites are you gonna use? NCIX and tigerdirect.ca?
Wait. Definately. Then let us build your 3.5k rig
Definitely wait. Your current rig is good enough to make you wait til March !
OFF Topic : Hey Jester, nice hat you have on your avatar !
didn't notice it earlier...

I would say wait. That was my bad move on my build. I was too impatient. Wait till March (maybe a little after) and build a nice one with that 3 grand. Get DX10 compatible hardware, meaning Video Card. So then you'll be set for Gaysta, pardon me, VISTA and all the DX10 ready games.

Yeah, wait it out

Unless you've got some kind of need - for me it was a birthday present for my inital parts - then hold out as long as you can

With that budget, look at 24" widescreen monitors + 1 or 2 8800 GTX. Asus P5B, any conroe or kentsfield you can afford, 2GB of G.Skill RAM. One Raptor 150 (for OS + Apps) + a 7200.10 (Storage).
Maybe you could upgrade now the components you will be able to use again with the new rig, like some Raptor Drives, the monitor, sound card, power supply...

Undoubtedly wait until March, if not a little later on in 2007. Intel will (apparently) be dropping the prices of their Quad and Dual core, Core2 CPUs around mid 2007. If you wait it out, you could get a quad core for a lot less than you could do now and then have extra cash to spend on getting other good quality hardware.

Also, waiting until March, or even June 07 may give you a chance to see if AMD come out with any Conroe killing chips. I'm sure they've got something up their proverbial sleeves that'll give Core2 a good kicking, performance wise
.

I know it's temping, but ultimately you'll be pleased your waited
.

Highly-Annoyed

Well, since sending me that 3 grand probably isn't an option, I would suggest waiting. Or, if you're in a hurry for better performance, buy a few transferable parts (like HD, monitor, or RAM) now, but wait for the big stuff (video card, mobo, cpu, etc) until later.
I clearly do not need to say it...

If you link a couple of shops, I am sure there are any number of members that would love to build you a virtual rig.
