The GTX260 will be better for gaming. Purely more powerful GPU.

The branding of the card makes no difference when it comes to performance, so the question is simply 9800gtx+ vs GTX260
and The GTX 260 is the top performer of the two

Depends.

For instance, if gaming on resolutions below 1680x1050, then the GTX 260 would be a tad overkill.
gtx 260 FTW

there is no such thing as overkill in the man hood dictionary.

by the way, gtx260 is a more powerful gpu.

They don't even list them anymore on NewEgg.
e-vag is way more e-peen

(sorry couldn't resist)

Both good brands but when I am running Nvidia I always go evga since they are only an hour away from me.

What's wrong with that?

The GTX260 is superior. Period.

Im also looking to buy a new card.

This or this then?

Im kinda looking for a tradeoff between value for money and pure power.

So do i get The EVGA GTX 260 or the less powerful but still capable 9800 GTX+?

Im looking for games like Fallout 3, and Empire: Total war to sit at a comfortable 50-60 fps at 1680x1050 with AA, Textures etc all full.

EDIT: Let me rephrase that thats kinda stupid...
Also, it would be useful if anybody could recommend an adequate PSU as well. The 300w one i have certainly won't cut the mustard...and i look to SLi in the future when its time for an upgrade

For the moment im looking at A Corsair TX 650w PSU

For 40 extra i would take the gtx 260 anyday.
For that price, get the better of the 2.
I got this instead. It owns the EVGA GTX 260 by a small margin and it was £20 less

Radeon HD 4870 1GB

Well, there's your answer. The lack of PhysX support will bug you in a few titles, but you'll survive.

To those still looking, check out the core 216 GTX 260s. They are almost as powerful as a GTX 280, but a lot cheaper. Those extra cores are worth their weight in gold.

GTX 260 hands down period.
