I was planning on getting a 3000+ for $159.99, but I have the chance to get a 3400+ (yes, it's the s939) and was wondering if anyone else has tested it?

I can see it's rather rare so I might just pick it up anyways.

if it's a clawhammer then you'd be better off getting the 3000+ if that is a venic core.

The Venice core will OC better and have a better memory controller. My 3200+ E3 Venice runs stable at 2.6Ghz. From what I heard the E4's OC a bit better.

you can get an E3 here for basically the same price as the 3000 you were looking at... note the model number

here is the E4

The E4 will have a newer memory controller and just may OC better. Since you're from Canada you can't order from newegg, but at least look at the model numbers

yeah the venice only has 512mb cache... you have to get a san diego core or move to an opteron to get 1mb... for the current cores in production.

I still stand by my venice suggestion

I would skip the E3 and E4 Venices, and look into an E6, those things OC like crazy!
ALso, the only 3000 A64 with 1mb cache is the 3000 Clawhammer DTR, and it is 754. I don't think there is a 3000 939 out there with 1m oc L2. But I would go for the 3000 Venice, Newcsties aren't very good at OCing.

Alright, I'll get the 3000+ for my main rig.

I'm getting a Asus A8V Deluxe and the 3400+ for $200 to $250 CAD, so it's a good deal none the less.

Eh, thats not so great of a deal IMHO. Since it is used, you should spend about $190 CAD on the combo.

dont bother with the newcastle, even though I've never heard of a socket 939 newcastle...better make sure it is a newcastle and not just some cpuz error. It could be a venice.
But I would get the venice either way, as others mentioned, newcastles dont clock well.
