Is it connected via a router? If so, check if DHCP is enabled. The DHCP should automatically give out IP addresses.
What's going on with Vista networking??
Just started...
Did this before I reformatted it... Still does it... Only connects to WLAN and I have to go into CMD and do ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew before the internet will work.

try getting new drivers for the cards and also i noticed with some vista desktops you need to disable the wlan to get wired to work

Got it working by setting up a static IP.
Still wondering why it doesn't work with DHCP on my laptop but works fine on my laptop.
Thinking a IP conflict somewhere though...
