Say I have three videos of exactly the same thing. One is 420p, one is 720p, and one is 1080p. The clip is 1 hour long.

What will the file sizes for these 3 hour-long clips be, please?

If it makes a difference, say they're .AVI files.

We can't just calculate that.

First of all, it is 480p, not 420p.

Second of all, .AVI is crap and uses unnecessary disk space.

Third of all, whatever is doing the recording will use different rates of compression.

Okay, I'll spell out the whole scenario, then.

We have Tivo, now. The advertising bumf says the basic Tivo can store 45 hours of HD telly. We do not have an HD telly. We do not get HD programming. Because the only person in the hose who watches TV is my mother, and she's fine with SD, we only have SD. How many hours of SD TV can our Tivo record, if it holds 45 hours of HD programming.

No, I don't know if, when it says "45 hours of HD", they mean 720 or 1080. Please give me two scenarios, one for each.
