Nickle plated copper. The nickle is just for anti-corrosion.

Yes a CPU lap is a good idea. I have had one that was not flat at all, it took me a while before I realised that was the problem.

To shed some unwanted degrees, anything is worth it. Higher OC's ftw!

easypckits.com has good kits with all you need. glass, and lots of different grit paper... all for about $15. Its what i used on my IHS, and it blings! plus a ~6c drop in temps.

Found the place u just mentioned while i was floating around the web Sweet package, just what's needed and best of all I dont have to hunt all that crap down. Think I should lap my scythe ninja too? It looked pretty damn straight and had a good shiny finish.

Check around for an Auto Body/Paint store. You can get individual sheets of sand paper rather cheep. Unless you know an auto painter/bodyman who can hook you up

I bought the lapping kit from that EasyPCKits, http://www.easypckits.com/products/hslkwg/ . 6 bucks gets you 7 sheets of the different grade paper, and a piece of glass. Worth it for me just in the time saved looking for this stuff. Last time I tried for the sandpaper I couldn't find any store in the city that carried any over 800 grit. Had to go out to the suburbs and hit Auto Barn.
