Well, my mum just handed me her laptop and told me to fix it, and I'm not sure what to do. The keyboard is typing the wrong letters/numerals

i.e.
space = 6 or some times 2 or even both
NumLck = /0
Y = 0y or sometimes y0
P = /ph

I've looked at a million posts on the internet, no solution helped.
Regional settings are as they should be.
I've tried alt + NumLck, shift + NumLck and FN + NumLck
And I tried re-installing the driver.

Liquid in the membrane, or a futzed controller.

It's dead Jim. Unless you care about it enough to try to completely dry out the membrane, which may or may not fix it.

It's been a little while since I've taken apart a laptop, but the last time I did it wasn't difficult at all to remove the keyboard. Maybe replacing it would be cheaper than a new laptop?

Thanks, I thought as much and I don't care enough to spend any more time to see for sure, it's still under warranty, so I'll just tell mum to send it away to be fixed.

Edit: To the guys suggesting to replace it, I know I could, but it's still under warranty so I don't feel the need especially since it's not even mine. XD

Replacing it would be cheaper. Generally is, rather than repairing. My laptop had a snapped screen housing after the cat jumped on it, would have cost just as much as the laptop just to have that fixed (something like $700). I just used some duct tape.

It's only 2 months old and still under full warranty, so it'll be repaired/replaced free. so there's no need for me to do anything with it now.

Look @ gemwon.com the have a lot of original keyboard, often at very good price.

E.g. I payed a brand new acer KB 8.9$

This has happened to me before with my moms old Sony Vaio laptop. The keyboard it's self wasn't plugged all the way into the motherboard for some reason. Plugging the ribbon cable back into the mobo all the way fixed it for me.
