IMHO never, already Magny Cours have quad channel memory controller. As Intel proved it with Lynnfield (say i7 860) there's absolutely no need on a single socket motherboard of more than dual channel for now. In the future I see AMD keeping dual channel on the desktop and quad for higher end servers.

So then is the Tri-Channel Ram pack more of a marketing gimmick???

Tri-Channel RAM kits are just 3 DIMMs that use same ICs and are binned to operate together at the same timings.

Tri-Channel itself is a function of the memory controller.
