Grunion was basically saying not to copy the profile folder itself (that's the one with random characters for its name), but to copy the contents of the old profile folder to the new profile folder and overwrite the existing files. And he's right because the name of the profile folder you're importing will be different, and Firefox will most likely ignore a profile folder that it didn't put there. I have totally replaced the contents of the profile folders twice now, and it hasn't messed anything up. You're welcome to make a backup copy of your new profile folder, and then overwrite the contents of the new one with the old one.
