I'd go with the quad core, mainly because it's only $5 more...not counting shipping

On second thought, go for the $1499 variant

Neither, I would go with a Asus G73 with the Crossfire 5870ms. On par with the Alienware, and so much cheaper. Runs cooler too.

For raw power, I'd go for this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ALIENWARE-M17X-R2-LAPTOP-i7-720QM-5870-CROSSFIRE-8GB-/330516415766?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item4cf4504516

That being said, MSI makes some decent gaming laptops that are cheaper and you won't have to deal with ebay sellers or refurbished items.

MSI GX660R-060US can be found for ~1500 CAD: http://www.msimobile.com/level3_productpage.aspx?id=255

It's lacking a little RAM when compared to the Alienware and it has a single 5870. However, it does have a BD drive and two 320 GB HDDs in RAID 0.

This is also a great option for the price (usually $1100 CAD): http://www.msimobile.com/level3_productpage.aspx?id=215

A single 5870M is equal to a 5770.

My bad.

Read that as 5870m is equivalent to a single 5850, not 5870m crossfire. So yes, 5870m crossfire would be comparable to a 5850.

Nope, But I could if you'd like. I'd just have to install games, I just got a SSD

EDIT: I made a video. Just a heads up, the camera records at 20fps, the game always runs at well above 60fps.

G73s do not have Crossfire. They are single card laptops. If you can link me to one, I will be happy to correct this. But having opened JW & JH, I can safely say I have not seen one laptop that has Crossfire or SLI.

You took the words right out of my mouth

.

Excluding the xfire/ sli thing there are many units on the market right now offering SLI/ Xfire. Though I wouldn't really call them "laptops"

The 470m is a down clocked 460SE (desktop) with a smaller mem bus and more vram. If you're cooling is good enough with some overclocking a 470m can out perform a stock 460SE by a small margin.

I cant say much about the ATI stuff on the market these days though.

asus G73 less money more power better quality

http://www.xoticpc.com/

also i have a friend who repairs computers i was looking into alienware but he says he sees countless alienwares come in due to mother board shorts and the LED keyboards controller chip frying itself out cause it cant handle the changing colors much longer than 6 months unless not used or changed much and that was reason enough for me to say forget it lol plus alien ware is made by dell now and dell is bad with motherboards i also herd a conference where dell admitted the alienwares often short out after a year because of the power they put into them and the motherboard cant handle it
