Which 4870?

Hey i'm looking to upgrade my rig to with a 4870 and i'm down to these two cards:

Sapphire Toxic 4870 1gb:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102815
HIS IceQ4+ Turbo 4870 1gb:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161265

Both are OC editions with custom coolers, same overclock on both except the toxic model's core clock is 10mhz higher (but that could easilly be made up with my own ocing) so what i'm really curious about is which one has the better cooler and extra OCability?

also which company is just plain more reliable?

the Sapphire model only has a 1 year warranty, while the HIS model 2. what are everyones thoughts?

his. it's more silent

i would buy HIS simply due to reputation, and it has 2x the warranty period.. and also they sometimes package a fancy screwdriver! sweet.
I think they both make solid products and are well known brands. But because of the 2 year warranty, I'd lean towards HIS.
i highly recommend the HIS, :] hope this helps
I'm a long time Sapphire fan so that would be my choice.
I wouldn't even factor in clocks. Most cards regardless of stock clocks will OC the same. I would go by cooler and warranty. Even then, do you plan on owning this card for more than a year? A year is a very long time in the HW scene. If so, get the HIS.
those cards are over priced though, you could go for something like this:

with much better performance on higher resolutions.
well my plan is to get a 4870 then evnetually either crossfire or trifire it, a 4850x2 would pay off more immediatley but in the long run the 4870 seems a better route. I'm also considering waiting for the 4890 to come out and picking up one of those instead.

Right now i'm leaning a little more towards the Sapphire model. I've read alot of reveiws on both and it seems that Sapphire model can acheive much higher overclocks than the HIS model (every review i've read shows the sapphire hitting up around 850 and the his not being able to get past 780 or 790 on the core clock). That and the cooling solutions seems potentially better than the HIS cooler, it runs a bit hotter than the HIS but also runs slower and quiter at it's stock speed, meaning if i matched the speed of the HIS one it'd cool just as well if not better.

The warranty is the only thing I'm hesitant about, 1 year isn't that long and 2 years would be nice. But 1 year is also a long time in the hardware world...so i'm still unsure...

At that price range you might as well go with the 4850x2. There is no way a single 4870 can beat a 4850x2. If you are going to go crossfire 4870s later there is no reason to buy such overpriced 4870s and if you got the 4850x2 now and got another one later you could just crossfire those.

Sapphire makes awesome cards but their RMA service sucks balls. HIS is pretty decent from what I've heard and their stock coolers are pretty nice to look at as well.

Also, according to Sapphire's website, they are supposed to come with a 2 year warranty.

I'd get a reference board in case you decide to water cool later on, I had to modify my gpu block to fit my sapphire as it's a non-reference board.
if u wanna spend that much, wait 3 weeks and get a 4890.
Being a Sapphire fan, I would choose sapphire

just my 2 cents

that's another thing i was wondering, is their a difference between that 4870 and the toxic other than the overclock? because the cooling appears to be exactly the same, and if that's the case that seems like a better buy potentially.

I'd get the XFX. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150352

It has a double lifetime warranty, and much better support.

I think the Toxic version has different heatpipes or something. I have the cheaper Sapphire linked and it stays extremely cool even in the Aussie weather with the fan speed around 50-60percent. If you still want to choose between those other two cards though I would go with the HIS for the extra warranty.

I'm probably biast too. Happy with my HIS 4870 1GB cards.
No problems at all. I don't bother OC'n them cause they're more than sufficient. I gain maybe 1-3 FPS overclocked. It's the CPU overclock that helped big time.

I was recommended Sapphire too, they're cheaper, good overclockers and whatnot. I don't think you'll regret either/or tbh.

is that XFX a stock cooler? because i deffinetley want to avoid one of those, i hear the 4870 is notorious for high heat.

I think i'm going to wait til the 1GB 4890 OC edition comes out and get that, it's suppose to be 300 which is only 40 more than both the toxic and iceq4+ and it'll be better in the long run. If i can't wait maybe just the 190 Sapphire, that little bit of an OC and slightly different cooler doesn't seem worth 70 more bucks from what i'm hearing
