Im thinking of buying a aftermarket cooler for my 8800GT now since it gets really hot around 70c or more while gaming on load. idle is 48c. Which would be the best choice for the price and cooling?

Thermalright HR-03 GT
Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo
Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev 2

Any others?

^^^^Beat me to it...but he knows

THERMALTAKE DUO-ORB FTW!!!

I never saw over 45C under load at 780/1010

I coupled the Duo-Orb with I and H ram coolers and never looked back.

That setup is now in one of my LAN computers and running as strong as ever.

I would choose the Accelero TwinTurbo, but the AcceleroS1 Rev2 will perform slightly better if you can take the time to mod it by adding a fan or two.

Hmm okay. Im actually surprised that nobody recommended the HR-03 GT.

So its either a go for the Accelero TwinTurbo? or the Thermaltake Duorb! Which>?

Duorb!!! I had 2 of them they are great coolers. + They save space. The Accellero S1 is a great cooler too, but large and unsightly (I added my own fans on them. 2 120mm fans
that thing never saw temps in the high 20's on idle lol)

I say get the DuOrb. Mine kept my GT's in the low 40's (43c average) and it never passed 55c under load.

accelero s1 rev2 w/some fans and the HR-03GT are probably the best coolers, but take up the most room.

while the duorb and twin turbo are both dual slot (pretty sure) perform just a little bit worse by at most 5c?

which ever you can find cheaper, duorb or twin turbo, go with that.

fyi: my 9800gtx with accelero s1 & two 120mm fans is a 4.5 slot cooler!

the TT duOrbs.. just because you can fit 2 in a SLI setup/ ease of installation.

The HR-03GT is significantly bigger and not all mobo will fit them. (for example my EVGA 750i FTW.)
dunno if you can see them, but i manage to fit a X-Fi xtreme gamer in between those two 8800gt

Yeah. I used AS5 and both of my GT's and my 4870x2. All I did was apply a small amount of it then after that I spread the AS5 around with a credit card until I had a very thin layer covering the cards GPU.

Far from popular belief, AS5 won't "destroy" a chip with out an IHS. You'll be fine

Enjoy them! They can be a bit loud so I hope you don't mind the extra noise! I know I enjoyed my time with my 8800GT's. Be sure not to tighten the screws/bolts/whatever too tight. I had one break on me, but luckily it held on just fine with great temps.
