Computer will be used mainly for games. Older GPU as a temp until I get more money, accepting recommendations. Only using 1280x1024 res or lower anyway, cod mw2 - gta iv etc..

Parts same for either build would be (Accepting recommendations) -

CASE - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811103011

PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341017

HDD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148395

GPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150322

Total - $259.96(shipped) + minus $30 rebate (Trying to only spend $500 for everything, going over some won't kill me)

///////AMD - Tri Core///////
CPU + MOBO -combo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.295032

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227483

$259.96 + $300.85 = $560.81 --- minus $30 + $15 rebate

//////AMD - Quad Core//////
CPU + MOBO -combo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.295024

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227483

$259.96 + $344.97 = $604.93 --- minus $30 + $15 rebate

I think I'm going to need alot of help.. Ugh lol, this is a mess.. So many choices, so many different possible combinations. Ram will probably need to be changed, I used the 10% off promo on the OCZ ddr3... In the end, I'd probably overclock any rig I get. I did not choose the case for the look, but because the discount was attracting. It also looks like air flow will be decent. Thank you

EDIT: Maybe I could get lucky and unlock the 4th core on the tri cpu? Would the mobo work?.. Taking recommendations to change any hardware, or even make a whole new build.

EDIT 2: Just noticed a combo with the psu I have chosen above.. Maybe I'd be better off using it. Same PSU like I said, but with a better video card.

Hmm, I'm getting 404 errors on every link you posted. Don't know if you did something wrong or if its newegg.

Sorry, fixed links now.. Someone has also recommended some other cases to me.

I'd say if you can afford it go for the Quad, If not go with the Tri, both will give you great performance. Either one you choose, it will be limited by the GPU until you get another one anyway.

Also switch the HDD for this one. It is right now the fastest 7200Rpm drive out right now, and the same price!

Edit: I'd honestly get rid of that case as well, go with either the Lian-Li you linked above me, it is definitely the best looking, better cable management, and probably better at cooling than the other 2. You would just need to add a fan or two up top.
Alright...

Labored over this quite a bit. I hope this is decent.

First off, case - waste of money. You're on this strict a budget, you go for a budget case. That's not a case I would spent $70 on either - it's crap.

Case: Rosewill Mid-ATX Black - $30 shipped
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147010
Shipping kills on cases. This is cheap, this will fit, this will work. I have used them before. They're not fancy, but they 100% do the job. Comes with a free spare power supply!
Always handy to have around.

CPU/Mobo Combo: X3 720 + Gigabyte 790G - $195
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.295032
Same one you listed. It's good. Get it!

PSU: Antec earthwatts 430 - $55
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371006
Cheapest good PSU. This will run what you need just fine unless you want to go into heavier cards.

RAM: 4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws (2x2GB) DDR3 1333 - $91
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122
Good set of RAM, and decent price.

HDD: WDD Caviar Blue 320GB - $48
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136098
Tough to pick a HDD when there are 100GB+ differences at $5 rates. HDDs are cheap now, so you can always pick up another or a Black later.

GPU: XFX 9800 GT 512MB - $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150323
Such a great card (8800GT/9800GT) - still performs, and will do so extra beautifully @ 1280x1024. Double lifetime warranty, and comes with a copy of COD:MW(1).

Pros: Great system right off the bat. Will power most games up to 1680x1050 at high settings. Three cores, will especially make a difference in GTA4.

Cons: The PSU won't allow much of an upgrade past the 9800 GT in terms of performance - if you're planning on going for a heavier card eventually, you'd need to upgrade the PSU. Case is not very pretty. HDD is only 16MB cache and only 320GB - that is easy to replace though.

$525 shipped @ Newegg. $30 worth MIR brings it to $495.

Thank you for the HDD link, may I know how you know its the fastest? I will use it in my re-build

I have to mention what a great job you did there, now I'll take a crack at it again
. Brb with my edited build. Thank you

Here's what I've come up with..

CPU + MOBO - Combo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.295032

PSU + Video Card - Combo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.298969

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227307

HDD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152181

$480.05 shipped - $425.05 after $55.00 in rebates

Now I can't decide on the case.. I actually want the Lian Li case, but shipping isn't free..

Lian Li Lancool ($88.98 shipped) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811112238

CM Storm Scout ($84.99 - $49.99 after rebate) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119196

EDIT:
I could get the ram I originally chose, I think the it would end up being almost exactly the same price after the rebate. Opinions?

quad FTW. enough said. lol
If you plan on sending in those rebates, go with the storm scout. It's a very good case to begin with, and that $50 price tag makes it even better of a deal. If you are like me and don't feel like dealing with the rebates I'd go with the Lian-li.

No objections, just letting you know, if you plan to run SLI in the future you have to do a softmod to that board, as it's crossfire only right now, I can't help you with that but I'm sure google can.

Also those RAM coolers are very UGLY, lol, they should work though.
Sadly I had an issue getting my order through last night, it should work fine tonight now. Prices aren't the same anymore though
((((.. I'm now trying to remake the build.

EDIT: fyi, with my attempted order last night. I decided on this other ram. It may even change again now though, since the OCZ 10% off ddr3 promo is over.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227483

EDIT 2: Sad reality
.. This is the price difference from yesterday and today.

Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119196
CPU+MOBO - combo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.295032
PSU+VIDEO - combo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.298969
RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227483
HDD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152181

Yesterday's price - $578.19(Shipped) - $120.00(Rebates) = $458.19(Total after rebates)

Today's price - $632.80(Shipped) - $75.00(Rebates) = $557.8(Total after rebates)

Thats $99.61 more today for the same build.

EDIT 3: Thats $40 more for the case today, but I can't seem to account for the other $59.61..

EDIT 4: Ok, forgetting about rebates all together for a minute here.
The build today with no case - $542.81
That leaves $35.38 for a case, in order to keep yesterdays build price. I'm getting so obsessed with this, I can't figure out what hardware got more expensive today. I think the 10% off OCZ yesterday made it 11.99 cheaper.. So thats $47.37, still doesn't seem to be adding up.
