Hmmm, for that price range, for a HTPC, I'd want to pick an x1600XT, I think. Good DVD playback with the AVIVO technology of the x1K series cards, but still cheap, and certainly in your price range.
the x1600 pro or x1600xt will be good
Or if you can, the x1800gto / xt

well guys unless i decide to spend more money (i do have like almost $500 in my spending fund but i really want to save it....) the 7600GT seems like the most reasonable choice at this point...the LCD tv i saw on THG had a res of like 1366x768 which has less pixels then my 17" LCD running 1280x1024, which i can run all my games decently at max settings, AA,AF, etc

Yeah, don't get the X1600. It falsely says it's got 12 pipelines, but it's only got three that are capaple of processing up to 4 pixels at once.

7600GT is the best for the money if u want something cheap.
Here's one with a $20 rebate VVV
Or, if oyu have that kind of budget, get an x1900 All in Wonder. Great card, specifically tailored to DVD and TV play back, perfectly suited for an HTPC.

I would say X800GT - i know its old now but its a superb card. Overclocks VERY Well and Mine played BF2 + CSS On High on my current Rig (-GPU )

I dont know about the X1600XT but the X800GT is better than the usual X1600

Also remember the X800GT and my current Spec run on a 380W No name

Where as a more powerfull card like my current X1800GTO Will not and I am waiting for my new 580W

my old x800gto was a beast and overclocked like a beast. would be quite cheap and should be in your consideration. linckety link stock cooling on it is pretty damn good if youve got the room inside in your htpc case
