Some of you may know i am planning on overclocking my cpu to 3ghz and i am a bit worried about heating. Currently my temps are 28C, 30C max at idle and about 35-40C under when i play games like crysis although i bump up my fan speeds. I have arranged my case fans so my high speed yate loons is an exhaust right behind my cpu fan so it draws out more air and i have another yate loon right above my cpu fan blowing on it. I saw this fan at fry's like this one but not blue http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106123 i also think it had a bigger fan. I want to know which heatsink should i get to keep my temps around what i have now after i overclock? I read that Trues are good and then i saw the CM V8 which i don't think will fit in my case.

Probably the best price-performance cooler around, and should get nice temps at the OC you are aiming for.

What case do you have, your best bet of all these choices is the V8, or if you can get a TRUE, or a Xig.

lol at first yall were confusing me but then i saw you are suggesting the same 3. I have a CM690 case, i could tell you where exactly the fans are located if that will help. Which of the 3 that you suggested moves the most air? If it moves more than 65CFM that would be nice because my yate loon moves 88CFM when i set it to full speed and strangely it's quieter when i moved it to exhaust. A link would be most appreciated and everyone has been repped.

I use the Tuniq Tower 120, and it is a beast, if properly mounted, you can get temps down in the 25C idle.

Any cooler fan with PWM will automatically adjust its speed according to temperatures. Its all a matter of budget. If you want to get the best bang per buck, get a Xig. If you can afford top dollar, get a TRUE, lap it, pressure-mod it and buy some 100CFM fans.

i didn't know they made 100cfm fans wouldn't those be loud as hell? How much cooler would my temps be with the V8 heatsink? I also want to be able to control my cpu fan speed i have rivatuner and i can control my fan through that.

I also could use some advice on case fan positioning, i have 1 120mm high speed yate loon on the top of the case as intake, 1 HS yate loon as exhaust right behind my cpu so it cools it better, 2 stock CM fans on the side panel as intakes that came with the case and 1 in the front as intake that also came with the case. So pretty much i have 1 exhaust i think i need to change the top yate loon to exhaust so it draws out more heat from the heatsink.

That Zalman isn't too shabby so I'd doubt you'd see any difference with stock volts and clocks. If its your first time overclocking, get the Xigmatek S1283 and start OC-ing.

that one seems very good, faster than my yate loons lol. I will re-arrange my fans and possibly upgrade my stock CM fans to better ones if i have enough money after i buy a tv. I am mainly looking for a fan to move lots of air nothing flashy because my case is stock.
What is lapping a pressure-mod?

yea when i was cutting out the grill for the 80mm fan right behind the mobo i tightened my cpu fan and my temps dropped about 3C at idle. I use thermal grease it seems to be a lot better than paste at keeping out air, it creates a vacuum.

59DBA lol my yate loons are 40DBA and they are loud as hell when i set to max speed.

Between proper application and good thermal paste, you could shave a couple degrees off your temps.
IC Diamond Carat Thermal Compound is supposed to be top quality stuff with no curing time.

i think if i apply a little less thermal grease i can get lower temps.
