Here are My specs :
CPU- Athlon X2 7750 @ 3ghz
MB- Asus M2N68AM-PLUS
PSU- 500W
RAM- 2X2Gb 800mhz
Here's the question : I want to buy a graphics card which can play latest games with moderate high settings at 1920*1080 resolution 60Hz. i have narrowed my search to 9600 gt , 9800 gt, ati 4670,ati 4770,ati 4850. Am confused which to buy? Also should i get 1gb or 512MB versions of the cards.
With DX11 round the corner should i wait for fermi???

What is your budget?

And yes you should buy a 1GB card no matter what
i guess the hd 4850 is the best there and u can get it shipped for less then $120
IF that's your budget then don't consider ATI's 5XXX series or Fermi. These are expensive or going to be expensive... You have quite a large resolution and don't think many of those cards are going to handle any recent releases very well at respectable settings. I think the very minimum would have to be 1 GTS250 / HD4850. To start enjoying the games, you might want to look at getting a GTX260 or above.
You'll need something to better than a 4850 to play at that resolution. At least a 4870 or something comparable.
ok i cud possibly increase my budget a bit......... how much good would the gts 250 be? also cant i overclock the 4850 to get close to the 4870 performance?

wrong. I have a 9800GTX+ 512MB and I play at 1920x1080. The 9800GTX+ is comparable to the 4850 and on my 9800 I can max out every game I play except GTA 4 and probably crysis (havent played it). OP, if you get the 1GB model of the 4850, you will be fine. If you can increase your budget, go ahead and buy a better card, but if not, the 4850 will work great.

No the 4850 is still considerably behind the 4870 unless you modify it for more voltage which brings extra heat out and believe me trying to get the extra performance like that is far from worth it

Raise your budget and purchase either a new or used 1GB card...1GB 4870's can be had on here for as low as 110$

You probably won't be able to mod the 4850 to the performance levels of a 4870. Can people also stop saying "i can max out any game with this card" at 1080p resolutions please. I doubt you can max all games and have atleast 60FPS. Cos anyone can max a game, playing it comfortably is another story.

Really? I would have assumed that a 9800GTX+ would struggle at that res.

Wait... how old are the games you play?

I had the 512 MB EVGA 9800 GTX+, and it was quite a powerful card. The only reason I upgraded is because of this question: "why not?"

I'm playing new games, like Borderlands, Red Faction Guerilla, CoD4 and WaW. Like I said, the only game that I have that I can't max out is GTA4 (don't have crysis). I don't always get 60fps, but i dont get super low fps at all. i think the lowest I usually dip to in the more graphically intensive parts, is probably around 35fps, which doesnt bother me too much. I'll probaby be upgrading around new years though, although, maybe I should wait until nvidias DX11s are on the market so I can see whats available.

a 4850 with 512 does fine at 1080p as long as you TURN OFF AA/AF

some games also have ultra high/enthusiast settings which basically have super high rez textures that are too big for the 512 but would be ok if the card had 1gb

you can get good gameplay at 1080p tho on a 4850 although right now you should just get a 5770... the 4850 is starting to get a bit long in the tooth
