A friend of mine can get his hands on some video cards. So he wants the best setup that he can have.
The chooses are
MSI lighting GTX 480 SLI
AMD HD 5970 2GB
HD 7950 w/boost
Which setup would be the best way to go? Please list best to worst.

That will vary on the rest of the system being used?
7950 is what I would take. 5970 would be the bottom for me, next GTX480 sli.

Without a doubt the Radeon 7950, its newer than the rest, always try to grab a newer tech rather than older. Although the 480's in SLI on air would make a nice space heater for winter...

Joking aside, grab the 7950.

He plays games like borderlands 1 & 2 and some older games too for right now.
He has a FX-8150 @ 4.7ghz, 990FX mobo, and OCZ SILENT RED 750W PSU.

EDIT
Forgot to add he has a H100 for a CPU cooler.

Best : HD 7950 w\boost
Than : HD 5970 2gb
Than : GTX 480 SLI
the 7950 due to the newer architecture,mantle,3GB vram,has fp64 compute,runs cooler

Depends on how much the power consumption matters. 7950 is without doubt the best, but 480 SLI is slightly faster than a 5970 although it consumes way more power.
