ati2600xt 800/2200 for $175(cdn) or XFX GeForce 8600GTS 730/2260 for $245(cdn)

i wanna know which one will yeild the best proformance for my dollar

i'd say the 2600. I can't back it up w/ any performance claims jsut yet but the 2600 has some killer multi-media features!

Well I think the gts is a little better in dx9 and the 2600 is a little better in dx10(but still not playable). I saw a review that said the 2600xt 512gddr3 model was the sweet spot for the 2600 line up since gddr4 offers no performance gains on a 128bit bus. that would be a little cheaper

and since this is a OC forum the 2600 may overclock better since its a 65nm core vs 80nm for the gts. also cosider the 8600 gt can be Oced pretty easily to near gts speeds

and of course theres the drivers, brand new and unoptimized in Ati's case.

I think If you can get together another $50 the 8800gts320 is the best bang for buck gaming video card out there having vitually no difference in performance from the 8800gts640. It was just on sale for $298 at ncix.

and aslo you could wait for the 2600 gemini cards to show up as they might actually share the same 512bit bus as the 2900xt with 2 65nm cores

I guess Id say go with the 2600xt if you had to get 1 right now but only because I like to gamble and bet ATI can come through with driver improvements

if you're running Windows XP, i would get neither. Radeon X1950 Pro will give you the most bang for your buck.

If the cards are close in specs, I would go for the ATi, as mentioned, 65nm FTW..little less power, better OC potential..and from my experience, ATi gpu's are just a little 'stronger' when all of the eye candy is turned on.

Q 4 u-> are the 2600's Crossfire capable?

and no ddr4 dont offer no proformance on 128bit bus

While it is true that the HD2600XT looks better on paper (higher core clock, GDDR4, etc.), the 8600GTS still outperforms it:

I think the reason why 8600GTS outperforms HD2600XT is because it has much higher texture fill rate. 8600GTS has 16 TMU, HD2600XT has only 8
