Ivy Bridge supports 2 ways to reach 1600MHz:

200MHz x 8 (x2 for DDR) = 1600MHz
266MHz x 6 (x2 for DDR) = 1600MHz

The same for 2400MHz:

200MHz x 12 (x2 for DDR) = 2400MHz
266MHz x 9 (x2 for DDR) = 2400MHz

My intuition would say that 266MHz should be faster since it's derived from a higher base frequency, but I am not clear where the 200MHz and 266MHz are derived from, are they linked to the 100MHz bus?

I appreciate any more technical details anyone can add.
