Which motherboard should I get for my Pentium D 930 Presler?

Right now I have the P5N32-SLI Deluxe but since my dad is ordering a whole new computer for himself and I WAS planning on getting him that same board, I could just as easily order any board I want and do the old switcheroo on him (he couldn't care less to be honest lol) so I was wondering, considering that I have an X800XL but my next card will be the G80 and that I will not ever do SLI or CrossFire.... should I get

nForce 4-SLI x16 Intel Edition (as in keep my motherboard)
RDX-200 CrossFire
RDX-580 CrossFire
975x

Out of those northbridges, which would overclock the highest FSB wise? I know that the Pentium D Preslers will overclock to about 4.5GHz or higher with a Big Typhoon and considering I have a 15x multi that means that its all up to the mobo regarding how high I'm able to get it. Also, how high do you guys think I can get with my current P5N32-SLI Deluxe??? My current plan is likely going to be to get the P5WD2-E Premium and then test it AND my P5N32-SLI Deluxe and see which offers a higher overclock and keep that one.....

I am confused....if you have no intention of using SLI, why #1 do you have a board built on it and #2 why would you think about getting another one?
Same for Crossfire.......you don't plan to use it, but are looking at buying boards that are designed for it?

IMHO, this is a no brainer, the P5WD2-E-Premium. Hands down.

I don't really get you men. U don't want SLI or cross fire but u get motherboard Nvidia nForce 4 SLI x 16= SLI and crossfire motherboard. In computer, never say "never" because someday, when technology will go farther, you say: "Damn, I should have taken this card spending a few extra bucks to follow the technology line." Because remember, you do not change motherboard like you change DDRAM or GPU.
I have a nForce 4 SLI, and my multiplicator is 17, and there is no need to overclock Pentium D. IF you want, first, build your comp, see how complicated it is, think that you don't want to put your hands in the wires again to replace your broken CPU (due to overclocking), and then if you still want, wait for it to run a lil bit so the CPU can live a lil bit before dying. Those are my advice men. IF you are still willing to make sparks out of your CPU, make sure your motherboard supports FSB of 800/1066 mhz and not 533/800 mhz cause then you will have no chance to overclock because your CPU will come with a FSB of 800 Mhz and will be blocked by the motherboard limited to 800. If you want to overclock, do not take intel motherboard because they block their FSB and multiplicator.

Huh??


If you OC carefully, and properly, you won't burn your CPU out, and definatly won't see sparks.

Once again Emmanuel it seems as though you have no clue what you are talking about....so anyways Thumper, I was asking which of those northbridges (or in some cases, chipsets) overclock the best to which I would think the answer would be the P5WD2-E Premium correct?

And also its a multiplier not multiplicator lol and Intel motherboards do not block their FSBs, in fact Intel's 975x is not too shabby of an overclocker itself but there are only 3 choices out now and it happens to perform 3rd best lol (Asus P5WD2-E and then the Gigabyte G1 thing)

The 975x chipset is probably the best out of what you have listed. The P5WD2-E Premium is a supposedly top notch board. From what I've read the nForce Intel's really aren't any good. The crossfire's I haven't read much on and I think they'd probably follow along the same lines as the nForce chipset.

Want to see 4.5ghz Presler? OK that can be done.

Have you seen a 4.5ghz or 4.0ghz Presler or any OTHER Intel CPU on an nForce 4 board?

Should I say: I didn't think so!

Want to see a 4.5ghz CPU.......choices are:
P5WD2-Premium $190
or
P5WD2-E Premium $220

My recom. P5WD2-P, performance wise between the two is very close. Overclock power? both will do the exact same job, a kickass.

Correct, IMHO. I am having AWESOME luck with my Premium, I can only assume the E-Premium is better
I'm almost to 4Ghz (true stable this time LOL) with the 920 processor (and no "sparks"
)

The only reason to get a nForce SLI chipset is for SLI, and it seems like that's rolling dice as so many people have had problems with them. The forums on ASUS are pretty busy with people with nForce boards and a handful of driver issues and other problems. Then again, some people have had no troubles.......but it's something I decided not to risk when I was building this rig.......but I have next to no need for SLI anyway, so LOL

Granted, I am a huge ASUS fanboy
, but if you have the money, I can't imagine why you wouldn't buy a P5WD2 in whatever flavor you can afford

Okay then, I'll order my dad a P5WD2-E Premium and then we'll swap them. He is "in no rush" to get his new computer so I can only wait patiently and will post my results when the time comes.

Good choice Remonster, we will have identical Mobo's (mines arriving wednessday) and I have a presler 940, so we should see similar overclocks except I'm on water

I hope for 5.0ghz with the help here, imagine dual core 5.0?! isnt that effectively 10ghz bandwidth?

good choice , i had one ()RMA'd) but they hate ide drives so SATA only for HD but why the hell would use this MB with anything but SATA 150 drive?
BTW Gigabyte x1975 is not total junk.

installed this mobo last night and it's the shiznit..

havent had a chance to play but it is so much better in terms of bios, drivers, ease of installation (software and hardware) ..

id recommend it to anyone, fourth mobo i've oc'ed in the last 18 months and it wins by a country mile!! will let you know results once cooling issue resolved
