I've been doing some super-tight number crunching and after sleeping it off I decided to buy my new rig. However, when I woke up - Neweggs Combo deal for my Phenom II X4 940 + Sapphire 4890 was gone!

I'm now stuck building my $850 rig downgrading to a 4870 - the new combo I went with gives me MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 Mobo, Phenom II X4 940 and a Sapphire 4870 for $403.90. Should I take this downgrade and be happy or not? (used to have an openbox version of the motherboard + the 4890 combo for the same price).

the chip is a 945, not a 940, the 940 is am2+ so when you said that with a AM3 mobo, i thought you were gonna buy something that wouldn't work. But, the 945 is a great chip, i have it, overclocks to 3.6Ghz easy, and im almost sound at getting it to 3.75Ghz stable, so it is a really great alternative from the 955BE. The GD70 is also a really good overclocking board, so getting to these speeds should be no problem. The 4870 is a good gpu as well, sucks that there aren't any more 4890 combo's, but i'd say your combo is pretty good man, plus you can always crossfire in the future.
