Thanks, but seriously, Unless you run 6+ sessions of photoshop, with over 2 virtual boxes at the same time, I dont think youl need 16gb. Maybe 12 but you lose dual chanel

I think to buy 16GB because technology changes rapidly, a few years later it may not be enough

GSKILL 16GB (2x8GB) RipjawsX DDR3 1866MHz CL10 1,5V Dual Kit Ram
Somebody told me that I buy orange because it is new technology, another told blue gskill because it has lower CL and 1600 Mhz is enough for Intel, why do you suggest red? (I am confused

Get something like 1600MHz, cl9 or lower memory. 8gb for gaming and light photoshop, video editing etc, 16GB for heavy photoshop and video editing
By adding ram you don't make your system any more "future proof". By the time 16gb is standard your old DDR3 1800mhz ram is slow and old

Also if you do gaming only, go for i5 rather than i7

I don't need the amount I have, got 16GB cos of the price at that time, and I only use 12 cos of my X58 chip set. When I upgrade to Haswell then all sticks will be used.

And going by ram recommendations for far cry 3 - Crysis 3 - 8GB for best results, I know!!!!

Well 16GB kits are worth it in my mind, then I got my Sammy's for £71

1600MHz cas 9 works fine no need for more, if you like to benchmark and have those 100 marks more go for 2133kits or samsung wonder ram.

Seeing as you're building a fairly high end system, I'd go for the 1866mhz RAM, assuming it's not more than $20 or so more than the 1600.

As for 8 vs 16gb, I also think you're making the right move going 16gb. I had 8GB myself, but recently upgraded to 16GB. I regularly hit 6-7GB when gaming. Applications these days, including web browsers, eat up tons of RAM unfortunately.

First one or second one is perfect, whichever is cheaper.

If same price, might as well get first one so you can enable XMP for DDR3-1866.

Cheers
