Hey guys, so im kinda contemplating on which ssd i should go for, Samsung 830, 840 or 840 pro. The 830 is through a friend and the 840's are online.

830 256gb - $150

840 250gb - $140-150

840 pro 250gb - $180-200

Would it be worth the extra ~$40 to go for the 840 pro over the 830? and im guessing the 830 is a better buy over the 840 even though its newer?

Thanks for the help!

i would save the $30 - $40 and go with that 256GB samsung 830. still great performers and great reliability.

thanks for the responses. Reps. Looks like the pro is a bit faster, but im guessing real world performance between 840 pro and 830 are about the same really. From what i read theres like 256mb of cache on the 830 and 512mb on the 840, would the 265mb make a big difference?

SSDs require more cache as their size grows. For the 250/256GB capacity point, I doubt 256 vs 512MB makes a huge amount of difference. I'm sure it's measurable, but it's not going to decimate performance.

At those pricepoints I would say 840 Pro > 830 > 840. If favouring price I would opt for the 830. If favouring speed I would opt for the 840 Pro.
