With the announcement that we won't be seeing a new chip for a while, how many other people are thinking about doubling up this year when the price is right?

Also, do you think this means we could expect to see a big emphasis on crossfire improvement in the drivers, since I'm pretty sure that a lot of us are going to be taking this route? Care to chime in, Thracks?

I was thinking about it, but I don't feel I will need it until next gen (read: new console games ported to pc) come out. Then I was looking at my MB and saw that right where the other PCI 3x slot is also where the SATA ports are, and they come out of the board in such a way that I think it would be impossible to throw in anotther huge 7970. SMH.

You can get Sata cables that turn 90 degrees right at the plug, would that get them out of the way?

what about a PCI or PCI-E sata card?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Express-Adapter-Converter-ASMEDIA-ASM1061/dp/B008BZAVVE/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1361037299&sr=1-3

not the ideal solution but a cheap workaround.

edit: I presume you could have a boot device off it but you may need a driver disk when installing windows

EDIT2: Oh and answering the original question, having already got 2x 7970's I'd say don't bother, too many issues and almost any new game is unplayable for a few months until they fix the drivers/scaling problems! I think nVidias GTX 780 will be a beast so I'd keep my eyes peeled for that if I were getting an itch for an upgrade.

The only thing coming out this year from either AMD or Nvidia is going to be rehashes of existing cards. Thus, why I asked the question in the format that I did. And why I directed that second question at Thracks.

To Raleigh.

They'll fit. There are a few out there that are even flatter than that.

my bad.... I'd assumed nvidia would be releasing a load of cards to follow the titan on the GK110 chip

Trifire..?
If I did It would only be because I had the money before the GPU became obsolete.
Crossfire would be a bit over kill for my needs, and I wouldnt have an extra empty slot between cards. Trifire would just be OCN.
I would probably just upgrade the card itself to a 7970.
Im on you here... I will be going for crossfire this year... maybe end of this year trifire... by that time HD8000 series will be released and probably (I hope) prices of gpu's will drop and mobo's will also drop.
