I finally did it!
I ordered the
150GB VelociRaptor! I am so shocked! I thought I was never gonna do this.
Anyway, is there anything you can say to help me be even
more excited about my purchase (as if that's possible)? You see, I may need some help to avoid procrastinating on installing it. It's going to be my boot drive and also the drive where I install everything.
Thanks for looking at this silly thread.
UPDATE:
I received the VelociRaptor in the mail yesterday and I have since installed it and did some "real-world" testing because I prefer to go by the feel instead of numbers.
I just got done playing a game, and this has indeed reduced the loading time for that game quite significantly. In fact, the loading time is so fast that my 9800 GTX+ has not had time to underclock, or rather, it hasn't had time to go back into the Power Saving Mode (HybridPower).
Not only that, but Windows does boot and reboot a little faster now. Windows also installed noticeably faster too.
Oh, and I also noticed that Microsoft Outlook 2002 (Office XP) loads much faster now. In fact, the first time I open it after a fresh boot is about as instantaneous as it is when it's loaded from memory.
Firefox's first load time seems to have been decreased a little too, but it's not as much as Outlook's. However, it's still a little noticeable.
But as far as the speed in general, I definitely feel a difference.
Regarding the noise, I only hear something when there's hard drive activity. I mean, it's otherwise equal to my Barracuda. Now, I admit that I wish I couldn't hear the hard drive activity, but at the same time, it's a nice reminder that there's a different kind of HDD sitting in there.
So, I guess my conclusion is that I feel that it was worth my money.
