Whoa... My card and room are getting hot!

Hit 79C (174F) with this WU and the room, despite the AC running overtime, is getting too warm. Have to slow the WUs down, as whatever this 511 unit is it's burning my GPU up. Feels like a radiator in here now.

Seriously need some cooling to use this videocard longer than 12hrs working WUs. The die temps are murder. Even at 50% load it's at 160F.

Hm... [email protected] doesn't stress your GPU nearly as much as a good game will, at least as far as temperatures go. You should consider getting an aftermarket cooler if you want to fold, or even if you want to game on that card. 79C is not dangerous but it is still pretty warm.

I would recommend the artic accellero rev 2 if you think you can fit it in your case. If not the duorb is also very good.
This burn in is a literal one, and I feel almost baked near it. It's definitely the GPU, as the proc temps are no higher than 104F, and cool air is coming from the exhaust, except from the videocard.

If that video cooler is longer than this Sapphire card it won't fit (and I'm not going to do what my tech relative did to fit his Nvidia 270 in the case -- cut a hole into the lower drive cage to fit it!). Have plenty of room vertically, though (4" top and bottom).
The artic accellero extends towards your hard drives and it comes down about 3 or 4 inches from the bottom of your card. The duorb only extends about 2 1/2 inches down and it is not longer then my 4850. Both droped my idel and load temps by about 20C over stock.

Use the -advmethods flag and you'll get cooler WU's

Opps... ATi cards run hot wen it comes to folding
I know that my 3870x2 did

Fanspeed set to max? I know my nVidia card won't adjust the fanspeed automatically it seems so I just peg it to 100% and deal with it. Not too loud anyways..

Way it's going another cooler is in order, as even the fan at 100% doesn't even lower the temp. That 80mm fan is also blowing directly on the heatpipes -- it's plain h-o-t!

I know you said it's making your room hot but have you by an chance done a reseat? That may help sometimes the manufacturer's really drop the ball when it comes to applying thermalpaste properly.

If I do that, might as well get a video HSF. Only problem is I'm BROKE! lol
Are you useing a 1x120, 2x120 or 3x120 Fan radiator.
i'm experiencing the same too. so i just open the doors or turn on my ac.

but the 4870 simply runs very hot. get a tri fan solution for that

Sometimes I love living in Canada (my computers do to)!

I recently bought an 8800GT with a Duorb on it and the Duorb has impressed me greatly (same temps as my 88GTX under water), but it may not cool as well as some of the more gnarly GPU heatsinks...

Not watercooling -- but it may get to that if air doesn't keep the card cool (tech relative will through a fit, though).

It's right back upto 75C (167F). After their WU I'm calling it for the day (going to bed). Managed to get 4 WUs done, for 2044 points today (and whenever Stanford updates the points, that's over 4500 total).

Even when my ambient temps are 80F I never get above 75C for my cards even with 511 WUs. I'd say you need better cooling for your cards, or better case ventilation. If your room is getting above 80F with only one rig then open a window or door maybe. I have no AC going to my room at all and I don't get much above 80F with a single rig, although in the summer when it is 90F outside that might change.
I live in GA, and you have to factor in the temp and humidity. When it's 85F in this room, it's more like 100F in a room in AZ.

Added another 80mm fan to pull air into the case; pulled the UNA plug from the HSF to move more air; and turned the videocard fan upto 90%; AC is running with an ambient around 72F -- GPU temp is at 66C (150F).

That's a good temp!! Wish mine got that chilly. Oh well we will test BFG's lifetime warranty.

GPUs can take up to 85-90c.
Yes, but my body can't take the 85+F heat it can produce when the AC is off. It's a different type of heat (EM radiation) that feels much hotter than being out in the sun. It got w-a-y too hot last night, and hot ambient temps don't cool well.

It has to stay below 160F or even the AC can't keep the room cool.

Keeping the card cooler won't help keep your room cooler. If anything it will put more heat in the air.

If you cannot fold at night that's okay. A guy has to sleep.
