Hi all,

Installed WHS on my server and created an software raid 5. I copied the default shares to my raid and set the permissions, but now i cant seem to stream any content from WHS to my PC. Media streaming is enabled and there are some movies in the video share..

1. Does WHS only share the media that is on the default share location?
2. Does WHS support hardware RAID 5, so that it shows up in the console?

Thanks in advance,

Rex

ps. server is up to date, pp3 is also installed

Hmm, My WHS shows all my video on all my computers.
Can you see the files on the computer but not stream them?
What are you using to watch the files with, and what type of files are they?
What OS is on the other computer?

whs does not support RAID Period.. It uses drive extender..
Not 100% accurate for hardware or software RAID...technically...WHS is just server 2003 small business. That's all it is. By "don't support it" they just mean no phone support/documentation officially or whatever. If you have a RAID controller with 2003 drivers just install the drivers/set up the RAID in the controller's BIOS like you would with any other version of Windows/Linux/etc. Drive extender is supposed to make RAID unnecessary on WHS (that was my interpretation anyway). But if you want to add more drives via a RAID controller there's nothing technically stopping you.

Of course you mentioned software RAID...you mean you went into the "disk management" applet and manually created a soft RAID 5? That's seems some how unnecessary with DE right there as a terrific feature...

Sorry, guess the thread may as well be closed but I had to correct that.

RAID5 shouldn't be problem for DE.... DE just sees the array as another disk.

However, it does negate the advantages of DE since I assume he made all storage drives part of the RAID5 array.
