Why are people buying Windows 7 Ultimate

Hi All. I'm getting close to upgrading my system with an i7-920, and I'll be going for Windows 7 Pro Retail (dont want the re-activation headaches of OEM).

I noticed quite a few people have chosen to go ultimate. I've looked at all the comparison charts and it seems that the only additional feature of ultimate over professional is the bitlocker encryption which actually ends up creating a special partition. There are a couple of features such as being able to talk to a UNIX filesystem, but I cant imagine that such a high percentage of users on OCN would need these features. I'm choosing professional for a number of reasons, but especially the remote desktop support which I will use.

Is there something I'm missing in regard to Ultimate vs Professional? Perhaps some promise of a future feature that may only be provided for Ultimate?

Thanks.

Ultimate has more language options.

...yep.

Stick with pro. Ultimate is an ultimate waste of money.

Yup. Need to install my copy yet.

Both of my free copies were Ultimate.

If I had to pay for 7, I'd probably go with Professional. The name "Ultimate" and having the sweet black box just makes it worth the extra cash though

i've got access to Ult for the same price as Pro. so might as well haha.

but if I remember correctly there's a handful of things like BitLocker, and some such. in all it's a pretty moot advantage in my opinion unless you know you need it.
It's for the E-Peen advantage!
(see sig rig)

But seriously, I got a really good deal for my copies of Win 7 Ultimate, but had I not, I probably would have gone Professional route. There really isn't as much of a difference as there was with Vista Ultimate.

They think it makes them better. They have no idea of what it offers. Or they are rich. I really do not know?
It don't matter to me as long as I can get rid of vista
Nope, get Pro. I got access to Ult for the same price, so I just went with it. You can encrypt your filesystem with Truecrypt if you really want to.
Overkill, it is what we do.

Best is subjective.

Features you'll never use, or features that have superior third party alternatives, do not make something better, IMO.

Yea I got mine free through msdn. If I were to actually buy I would just get professional probably. Maybe even less.

If it's worth doing, its worth over-doing.

I don't see a need in getting professional to be honest.

Run many Windows XP productivity programs in Windows XP Mode.

Connect to company networks easily and more securely with Domain Join.

In addition to full-system Backup and Restore found in all editions, you can back up to a home or business network.

I don't need any of those features.
