I headed in game and it seems no matter what settings I run Fraps and the game at, it's choppy as hell.

I can understand an FPS dip and a bit of judder every now and then but the game will totally freeze for random time periods between say 0.1 seconds and a second. It's like I'm getting 1 FPS when recording...

Any suggestions?

The quality would be degraded.

Not sure, I run it on a different drive to the drive I run my game on. (OS + Fraps on one drive and games on the other drive).

Could a CPU bottleneck recording? I'm running at stock at the moment...

IF it's a chip like mine it sure as hell can.

Your quad? It won't care. Unless you're trying to record something like BC2 or IV you'll have at least two cores sitting idle.

Hmm, when I open PlayClaw it says "No audio devices detected" and won't let me record sounds.

Then when I try to open a game the game will just crash with a DirectX error

EDIT: Any other programs worth trying, or solutions?

if its loading to slow drop the frame rate to 30 fps if it still does it then it all depends on the computer your running

Yep. It saves inside the default Fraps folder on the separate drive.

I thought a quad core could handle fraps

I've tried all kinds of different frame rates
